The gospel reading for the third Sunday in the season of Lent (Year C) speaks of two tragedies. The question people have for Jesus is what relationship there is between tragedy and sin – it’s a “do people deserve it when they suffer” question. In the story Jesus deconstructs any connection between specific “sins” and specific tragedies and instead reaffirms a loving God.
