Progressive Christian Bible Study

This week’s lectionary gospel reading is the Parable of the Prodigal Son. An unappreciated aspect of the story is what it would have meant in an ancient honor/shame cultural system. Both sons in the story dishonor their father but the father’s response exemplifies one of the most beautiful concepts in Christianity: grace.
